Our shift towards minimalism is killing our perception of our planet
When architecture and paintings started to depreciate themselves in quality to suit the modern minimalism trend, that was when the world became depressing.
Have you ever seen old-time architecture? All of them having a specific characteristic that differentiates them from the rest; giving each of these buildings an identity. Gothic architectures are absolutely jaw-dropping, with so much detail going around in every little corner. Walking into a Cathedral was a very different feeling as everywhere you go, you will always encounter something new. Walking around old-time architectures and seeing the outside beauty is also aesthetically pleasing. Whereas with modern buildings, everything looks the same! The same grey, dull, boring block buildings that are copied & pasted a couple dozen more times which have no form of identity, nor any distinguishable characteristics (apart from imperfection due to poor construction). There's nothing to admire when everything is just plain out repetitive and uninteresting. It's not just buildings that have been affect by the minimalist wave, it's every other man-made architecture such as fences, poles, phone boots, benches, fountains, etc. The shift towards minimalist buildings was probably due to the costs + the time required of building them; to gather the materials and the workers. Which understandably, it's a reasonable thing to do but to make every other architecture so repetitive and so poorly made, it's not reasonable at all. The sight of seeing unique architecture makes me so happy as architectures are quite literally art. For hours I'd walk around the streets admiring them, seeing how it's constructed and the amount of detail it has. There are some architectures which are cluttered with billboards and advertisements, completely distracting you from the beauty behind of those adverts. I fear in the future every other architecture will be covered with adverts, everywhere you go or even step on you will see adverts. Look up in the sky and you will see adverts, look down at the pavement and you will see adverts, stay indoors and you'll see adverts. The scariest thing of all is that this is already actively happening as stated over here.
What about paintings? Paintings have had the greatest effect from the modern minimalist trend turning literal crap into so-called art. Seeing museums being wasted to host the post-minimalism bullshit to please what people deem as art in the contemporary society is really pathetic. Their main attraction for those arts is their gallery text, for artists to create the biggest sob story telling everyone their journey and how they were so disadvantaged and how they were impacted by this. Not only does this completely defeat the purpose of art as a whole but it just gives a bad name to art itself. Art shouldn't be a literacy contest, art should be what words cannot depict (at least to my point of view). Arguments are posed saying how I don't understand art and perhaps they're right, I don't understand the contemporary art anymore. How can a shit stain scattered across some shirt be called art? Then there are also some 'rebels' who create art, those who want to 'escape the constricting traditional forms of art' by opting into postminimalism or abstract art (which forms the contemporary art). I understand how some would like to rebel against that but to produce something so terrible? That's not what art is for, a kid or a baby can produce the same exact thing. I have a strong attraction towards neoclassicism (which started after I discovered the band 'have a nice life' but that's besides the point lmfao), gothic and of course my favorite one, romanticism. These art eras were golden, that's when artist put the most amount of time, effort and passion. I believe a lot of these post-minimalism arts and abstract arts are supported by money laundering schemes, where some of them are supported by 'private investors' and that art is just some really crappy, low-effort, short-time piece of art. The shift towards post-minimalism paintings was definitely due to laziness and seeing how ridiculous things could get for them to get called out. The artists saw how easy it was to get people to like anything and they exploited that at their own needs. This isn't understandable at all and this dirty plague would make the purpose of art collapse. I used to spend hours upon hours in museums looking at art and reading those little gallery texts, indulging myself in what was in front of me. With modern museums I just see what's in front of me and wish to make the quickest exit. A lot of these contemporary arts are literally ones I used to draw on the Windows XP paint as a kid like this one.
I've only mentioned the effects of architecture and paintings for the sake of this post to remain short but there's a lot more out there that has been affected by minimalism such as technology, music, fashion, logos, etc. Minimalism is what's going to bring all of us into a nihilistic mindset. Our lives would be bombarded with advertisements being all around the place, architecture having no form of identity, contemporary art overturning classic art and everything else being soulless. Everyday objects, our environment, and the things that should be considered aesthetically pleasing to us, they will all be overturned. It will our lives more depressing and more miserable. Seeing the same shit, seeing the same crap, every single day.
I am not someone who studies architecture, just my thoughts and views dotted down on this post
I am not an art professional nor someone who's into literacy. I just love reading, researching and observing things about it
